Le CleRMa

Clermont School of Business together with the University of Clermont Auvergne (IAE Auvergne – UCA) is a co-supervisor and co-founder of “CleRMa”, a joint research laboratory in Management Sciences (originally created under the name CRCGM in 2008 and renamed Clermont Recherche Management or CleRMa, in November 2018). It is labelled as a host team, EA 3849, and brings together teacher-researchers in management sciences in the city of Clermont. In concrete terms, it is the main research laboratory in management sciences for the school’s teacher-researchers. It has 140 members, including more than 70 teacher-researchers (19 of whom are qualified to direct research) and 40 PhD students.

CleRMa’s three research areas:

Axis 1: AMPHI (Alternative Management, Human Potential, Innovation)

This area studies the profound transformations that companies and employees are facing in the new context of the knowledge economy and permanent innovation.

It is composed of three teams:

  • The “Management of Extreme Situations” programme aims to identify the new rules of the managerial game linked to the logic of innovative exploration projects. This programme has a chair, the Open Lab Exploration Innovation
  • The “New HRM projects” programme brings together work on the notions of social responsibility, organisational socialisation, diversity, SMEs, work climate, skills management and employee commitment/cooperation in the workplace in line with the contemporary economic context.
  • The “People Management” programme is led by teacher-researchers engaged in a critical analysis aimed at studying the forms of management developing in the so-called liberated companies.

Axis 2: STeRA (Strategy, Territory and Networks of Actors)

Organisations, whatever their status, size or sector of activity, develop strategies of collaboration, cooperation or coopetition. These strategies result in the interaction of multiple actors (private, public, associations) which transform their practices and the ecosystems in which they evolve. They contribute to the dynamics of the territories and the reconfiguration of the networks in which they are established.

The STeRA (Strategy, Territory and Networks of Actors) axis proposes to update the mechanisms of these phenomena through multidisciplinary approaches mobilising theoretical frameworks from strategy, public management, logistics or marketing. A particular focus on the management of health and the corresponding organisations characterises this axis, which is supported by the Health and Territories Chair.

Axis 3: FIRE (Finance, Information and Corporate Responsibility)

This axis questions the power and information links that connect corporate governance to its shareholders and its environment in the broadest sense.

It thus includes two research programmes:

  • The “Governance, information and performance of socially responsible companies” programme examines the influence of corporate governance and CSR mechanisms on the accounting and financial decisions of the executive and on the company’s performance. It is supported by the Value & CSR Chair.
  • The “Risk Management and International Financial Markets” programme studies the impact of the dynamics of international financial markets on risk management, particularly in the commodities and insurance markets.
The 3 research chairs

Research carried out by the faculty of Clermont School of Business is based on the three following axes of ClerRMa:

The Open Lab Exploration Innovation

The “Open Lab” Exploration & Innovation Unit carries out research to help organizations adjust their management systems, stay competitive and keep up with the demands of the environment.

The Health and Territory Chair

Is focused on the territorial strategies of health organizations, such as Spa Resorts

The Value & CSR Chair

Focused on the financial performance of socially responsible firms.

Research strategy

Our school’s research activity actively contributes to each of the missions defined in the Reveal 22-27 strategic plan:

  • By creating knowledge that is useful (and used) for our courses, in the form of actionable knowledge
  • By supporting organisations, through action research or intervention research, to help them better understand their environment, adapt to it and find appropriate solutions to their economic, social and/or environmental problems.
  • By publishing our intellectual contributions in a variety of media, with an international and national audience, and widely distributed.
  • By anchoring our research projects in our region, with strong added value for the stakeholders involved, in a proven economic, social and environmental rationale.

Research also actively contributes to the School’s positioning in its four dimensions:

  • A Grande Ecole with a human dimension: Clermont School of Business is not only a teaching school but also a research school, as demonstrated by the combined development strategy of its training and research programmes.
  • An international Grande Ecole rooted in its local area: most of our research projects are supported by local companies, while our intellectual output is disseminated at the highest national and international level.
  • Grande Ecole in sustainable management: this is the generic theme of our research, which is growing in volume and quality year on year.
  • Grande Ecole committed to a better world: a growing proportion of our intellectual contributions are focused on CSR and Sustainable Development.
