First intake for the new Media & Journalism specialization launched in partnership with ESJ Pro

Monday, September 8 marked the start of the very first cohort of the Media & Journalism specialization, co-created by Clermont School of Business and ESJ Pro.

Thirteen students are inaugurating this unique track that combines management courses with classes dedicated to media and journalism. Nine of them will complete their work-study placements within the editorial teams of Groupe Centre France, while the others will gain experience at TF1, RCF, Excepto, or Vasco Éditions.

Their first day began with a presentation by Anne Pats for all final-year Bachelor work-study students. Afterwards, the Media & Journalism specialization cohort gathered in a smaller group for an exclusive exchange with Nicolas Faucon, program coordinator, and Sophie Merle, Director of ESJ Pro Campus. In the afternoon, team-building workshops gave students the chance to get to know each other, share their expectations, and create the first bonds that will accompany them throughout their journey.

During the first two weeks of their curriculum, the students will follow an intensive program led by renowned guest speakers, including:

  • Sophie Merle, Director of ESJ Pro Campus, journalism school in Montpellier since September 2024. Previously, she was Editor-in-Chief at M6’s national newsroom, Editor-in-Chief of digital news, and AI expert within the M6/RTL Group. Over her 25 years in this media group, she worked as a journalist for Zone Interdite and 66 Minutes and directed the 6 Minutes Tours and 6 Minutes Montpellier newsrooms. She will offer students an overview of the media landscape.
  • Jean-Marie Charon, media specialist, sociologist, and researcher at CNRS. He teaches in journalism schools and at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. Author of numerous works such as La Presse des jeunes (2002), Les Médias en France (2003), La Presse quotidienne (2005), and Presse et numérique: l’invention d’un nouvel écosystème (2015). His latest study, Jeunes journalistes – L’heure du doute, was published in 2023.
  • Roxane Hibon, lawyer specializing in media law, currently at France 3 after working with the TF1 Group. Her lecture will focus on media and digital law.
  • Nicolas Faucon, journalist at Groupe Centre France, will share his expertise on the challenges and transformation of the regional daily press.
  • Paul Bonnaud, journalist at L’Équipe, specialist in video formats and social media, will discuss his experience in sports journalism in the digital era.

The highlight of this first session at the School will be an exclusive meeting with HugoDécrypte, creator of the media platform followed by millions of young people online, on September 17, ahead of a school-wide conference at Clermont School of Business.

After these two intensive weeks, students will return to their host companies on a work-study schedule designed to foster immersion in editorial teams: two weeks of classes followed by five weeks in the company.
